November, 2002 CSA hosted a wonderful group of doctors, nurses and technicians
from an angelic group called Poco Poco out of Canada. We assisted in setting
up and conducting clinics around Lake Atitlán to treat and access
a great many indigenous patients for possible free, necessary operations
to be conducted in the following weeks at a local hospital. Through our
advertising efforts and the tremendous need, the turnout was large, and
the remarkably caring and generous surgeons were able to successfully change
many lives and return wonderful, hard working people to productivity. Unfortunately, we are forced to spend too much of our time organizing and conducting fund raising projects in order to be able to accommodate the requests for assistance we receive. In December, 2002 we held our giant, annual Sidewalk Sale in Panajachel. The people of the Lake are always more than generous with dontions of everything from books, pictures, music, appliances, knick-knacks to clothes and jewelry, etc. There were clowns and even Santa Claus to draw a large crowd. This event and the many others like it are the backbone of our financial efforts. Enough cant be said in gratitude to the many citizens who donate to and work these events. |
